Mumbai :- Stratasys, a world leader in Additive Manufacturing 3D Printing technology in association with DesignTech Systems, one of the largest distributors for Stratasys in India along with Indian Plastics Institute, Mumbai Chapter organized ‘Injection IMG 4088 DesignTech Systems Ltd along with Stratasys held 3D Printing Technology summit for Plastics Manufacturing IndustryMolding Workshop’ at Hotel Sai Palace at Andheri in Mumbai on 22nd July 2014.

The event covered the applications and significance of 3D printing in the plastics goods and mold making industry.

Mr. Ido Eylon, General Manager, Stratasys, exclaimed, “3D Printing offers great advantages to companies that are into Plastics goods and consumer durables and product development. Creating physical prototypes of products helps companies evaluate, and validate the product designs physically. This helps companies identify product design errors early in the product development cycle, which when addressed right away, significantly reduce the costs and time of design reiterations. The companies can physically test product performance including fit, form and ergonomics. Through application of Direct Digital Manufacturing, companies can produce products for end-use applications e.g. – jigs, fixtures and mold inserts. This is ideal for small batch productions. 3D Printing considerably helps companies compress design and development cycle and facilitate them to hit the market early with their new and innovative products. For e.g. creating a regular aluminum soft mold typically takes anywhere between a few days to even weeks, as against 3D Printing. Stratasys 3D printers helps companies develop mold inserts for final use in just a few hours or maximum 1 day. Hence 3D printing can help companies save lot of time, costs and augment robust product development”.

A working demonstration of a Stratasys 3D printer at the event, gave people a chance to see a 3D Printer live in action. A display of various sample parts printed out of a wide range of Stratasys 3D printers gave people an opportunity to touch, feel and see for themselves how precise and close the real life product, these prototypes are.

Mr. Vikas Khanvelkar, Managing Director, DesignTech Systems Ltd expressed his thoughts saying, “Indian plastics industry is facing lot of competition and threat from the low cost plastics products from the foreign market. The only way Indian plastics IMG 4073 DesignTech Systems Ltd along with Stratasys held 3D Printing Technology summit for Plastics Manufacturing Industryindustry can outperform the foreign players is if they, adopt and make the best use of advanced technologies like 3D Printing to create robust and appealing products faster and more affordable than the low cost foreign goods. This will help them stay ahead of the competition and remain resilient”.

Indian Plastics Institute is a body of Plastics goods manufacturers that has always taken initiative to keep the industry abreast with the latest trends, developments and market scenarios which are relevant to their area of work.

Mr. Pankaj Shah, Chairman, IPI, Mumbai Chapter, on this occasion said, “Plastics goods industry in India has to reinvent themselves and incorporate a more modern and technologically equipped R&D set-ups and processes if we are to remain relevant and significant in this highly competitive market. To make our industry aware of and to educate them about the latest technological developments like 3D Printing which can go a long way in helping companies develop products better, faster and cheaper, we organized this event. I am personally feeling extremely happy and satisfied to see the response of the people to this event and to this technology. Adopting more streamlined product development processes, utilizing the technology to ensure reduction in design errors, which eventually will also augment and expedite product development processes is the need of the hour. And through IPI, we have and will always invest in educating people about the latest developments in our industry, emphasize the importance of not becoming complacent and becoming more open to the modern technology that will help us put on the global map of best-in-class plastics goods manufacturing”.
