Mumbai : DRUMS Food International’s Hokey Pokey Ice Cream launched its first South Mumbai outlet today, in association with 210 Degrees Bakery at Churchgate, near HR and KC colleges. With the launch falling during the week of celebrations for International Women’s Day, the brand invited former Sheriff of Mumbai, Principal of HR College of Commerce, and iconic Woman Achiever Dr. Indu Shahani as Chief Guest of Honour to open the outlet. Hokey Pokey also celebrated one of the best forms of women power – achievement in sport, felicitating 3 of Mumbai’s leading young female athletes – Mughda Joshi, Captain of the Women’s Mumbai Cricket Team; Aditi Dhumatkar, Mumbai’s fastest female swimmer and Commonwealth athlete; and Seeta Salgia-Patel, National Champion and Commonwealth Games Medalist with the ‘HoPo Female Icon of Sport Award.’ Dr. Shahani was joined by Hokey Pokey founder Rohan Mirchandani and lead star of the film W – Leeza Mangaldas.
Dr. Shahani is known as an icon of achievement through her significant contributions to education and for her commitment to uplifting the quality of life for the citizens of Mumbai. She is the first Indian to be appointed Vice-Chair on the Board of Governors of the International Baccalaureate and was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Letters degree by the University of Westminster in London. During her term as Sheriff, Dr. Shahani launched the women’s helpline 1298 with the support of 20 leading NGO’s, promoted blood donations for the city’s citizens, and harnessed student energy for Municipal Corporations. Additionally, she launched the Clean Up Mumbai campaign, where student volunteers would blow the Sheriff’s whistle to keep Mumbai city clean.
22 year old Aditi Dhumatkar is Mumbai’s fastest swimmer, with 3 national and 6 state records, who also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Psychology. In 2010, she was selected for the Commonwealth Games and has won numerous medals at the Senior Nationals. Aditi is currently training to make it into the Indian Contingent for the Commonwealth and Asian Games.
23 year old Mugdha Joshi is the Captain of the Mumbai Team for Women’s Cricket. Mugdha played for the under-15 team of the Mumbai Women’s Cricket Association and was part of the under-19 team, which won the All India U-19 Knockout in 2012. She also led the Mumbai Senior Women’s team that won the Plate group T20 tournament in 2013.
15 year old Seeta Salgai Patel is a Karate Champion, who has earned honours at the city, state, national and international level.
