Krian Media acquires USA theatrical rights for two upcoming big-budget Tamil movies

Ranjit Thakur, the man who pioneered the Digital Revolution in the exhibition space in India with Scrabble Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, has recently Kiran Media Krian Media acquires USA theatrical rights for two upcoming big budget Tamil movieslaunched Krian Media Ltd. as an extension to servicing of cinemas in the digital space globally. Krian Media which also has a film distribution arm aims at not only catering to domestic markets but to markets which are underexposed to Indian cinema, such as USA, Latin America and some European countries, with the ultimate vision of becoming a single window for release of Indian movies worldwide. Krian Media kicked off by distributing a Hollywood release, GI Joe: Retaliation across India this year and two Malyalam movies last week.

Following their vision, Krian Media has acquired US theatrical distribution rights for two upcoming blockbuster Tamil films slated to release this month. Arya Surya, a comic drama directed an produced by Rama Narayan, director of 125 movies. The film features, T Rajendhar, Powerstar Srinivasan and Mumaith Khan  in the lead roles and will be releasing on 13thSeptember. The other film, Raja Rani, a romantic comedy is directed by debutante Atlee Kumar and produced by A.R. Murugadoss in association with Fox Star Studios. The film features  Arya,Nayantara, Jai, Sathyaraj, Santhanam and Nazriya Nazim in prominent roles and is slated to release on 27th September.

Raj Malik, Vice President, Film Acquisition & Distribution, Krian Media highlighted “Understanding the popularity and demand of regional content across the globe we aim to deliver the best entertainment to our audiences on a global platform. Through our foray into distribution of films, we are servicing cinema in one or more way and adding to its reach in various parts of the world with an in-depth analysis of the right market penetration for the regional content. Apart from domestic distribution, our international reach is established in major markets such as of North America as of now.”

The Indian film industry is highly regionalised with the largest language groups supporting major regional industries. The audiences for Tamil cinema are really passionate, they discuss movies, watches each release a number of times in theatre- movies are in their blood. Today, regional cinema is also being made on huge budgets, therefore, to retrieve the costs makers are expanding the market beyond their language territories. Tamil film industry is doing pretty well with a mix of entertaining and colourful content.
