PM assures to provide nutritious and hygienic mid day meals to children

Addressing the nation on the 67th Independence day from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh recalled the recent Mid Day meal tragedy in Bihar and warned that this should not be repeated anywhere in the country. He said, the Mid Day Meal scheme will be reformed to ensure that the meals provided to the children are not only nutritious but also cooked hygienically. The Prime minister said, 11 crore children are being provided afternoon meals every day under the Mid day Meal Scheme. He also emphasized the need to improve the quality of education. He said to achieve this, more emphasis has to be laid on the training of the teachers with right to education already in place.
