“Maximum city” as 16 budding photographers battle it out to take the perfect still of the city. The stakes are high and it is a race to be featured on the cover of the National Geographic Traveller India magazine.

Covershot: Maximum City premieres on January 31, 2014, and airs every Saturday and Sunday at 8 pm on National Geographic Channel. With this unique theme this year, Mumbai has shown participation in full swing. A businessman, a former engineer, a pujari’s son and a few photo journalists- this show has 8 contestants with varied backgrounds from the city.

The new season is dedicated to the larger than life spirit of the city of Mumbai, boasting of every cultural detail that India is. This season has a daunting task for the photographers- to capture in a still photograph, a city that never stays still. The show will be judged by celebrated photographer and artist Samar Singh Jodha and film director Abhinay Deo (of ‘Delhi Belly’ fame). While Samar will be mentoring the contestants with technical and practical tips on photography, story-telling in every shot is what Abhinay will be watching out for. Popular model Shibani Dandekar continues to host the third consecutive season of the show.

Another bonus for Covershot viewers this time is the presence of master-photographer Raghu Rai at the finale. With a body of work spanning five decades, Rai is the only Indian Photographer to join Magnum Photos Agency and has been credited to have redefined photo-journalism in India.

Talking about the show, Debarpita Banerjee, Vice President, Marketing and Communication, NGC Networks and FOX International Channels, said, “Photography is not really a passive sport anymore. With more and more people jumping in, this sport not only gets active Raghu Rai Abhinay Deo and Samar Singh Jodha with the contestants 300x199 National Geographic Channel presents Mumbai from behind the lenspractitioners but also an enthusiastic audience. And in this season, to be able to see this action in pulsating Mumbai will be surely a treat served with extra spices. As we call it, it’s the restless Mumbai seen through #LensWars.”

Samar Singh Jodha, the celebrated photographer and Covershot judge said, “From concept to format to execution, NGC’s Covershot is an exceptional and remarkable show. You don’t get to see a reality show like this often on national television. That is what drew me to this project. My biggest expectation from the show is to see all of the contestants from the show emerge into big names in the photography world.”

The episodic themes of the series are unique and typical to Aamchi Mumbai: Ganpati Visarjan, Malkhamb & Akhada, People who drive Mumbai, Dharavi and an undisclosed theme for the Finale.
