Swineflu: 27 cases in Hyderabad, 1 death in Punjab

H1N1vaccines 78933 300x228 Swineflu: 27 cases in Hyderabad, 1 death in PunjabWhile an outbreak of swineful has claimed one life in Punjab, as many as 27 people in Telangana’s capital Hyderabad have tested positive for the H1N1 virus, and their treatment is underway at the Gandhi Hospital here, while 35 cases are under observation for suspected influenza.

This has been the first case of death due to swineflu this year, Punjab officials reported.

As per Dr K Narasimhulu, coordinator for swineflu at Gandhi Hospital, Hydearabad, the hospital has received four fresh cases of swineflu on Tuesday from various other private hospitals.

Narsimhulu apprised the press, “Till yesterday, we had 23 patients undergoing treatment in our hospital. We have received four more cases today. At the same time, 35 suspected cases including 10 children are under observation.”

The official informed that thus far, seven persons have succumbed to the fatal disease in Telangana since January 1 this year.

Health officials of the state maintain that although swineflu this year is not as vehement as it was in 2009, high risk groups (those suffering from different serious ailments and low immunity) nonetheless need to remain alert.

In 2014, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh had reported 88 cases of swineflu, and 11 people were reported to have died of the disease.
