Gurgaon : A serious of artworks by 7 artists “Shades of Nature” was inaugurated here on Wednesday evening at the Epicentre, Gurgaon. Curated by Paromita Basu, the series features artworks by Jyoti Sethi, Rupali Paranjape, Maria-Luisa Arrivillaga, Nanda Gupta, Khushboo Chatterjee, Sanam Bhasin & Sunando Basu.
Talking about the exhibition, Paromita Basu said, the exhibition “Shades of Nature” has a series of artworks by various artists who have tried to portray diverse aspects of their inner and outer self by incorporating colours and forms of nature with their individual expression and style. For these artists nature is not limited to the flora and fauna surrounding us, but it also encompasses their own sense of defining nature in all its forms. They have worked towards a common goal of providing their viewer an opportunity to appreciate the beauty, minimalism, simplicity, representational and figurative form of nature, says Paromita.
These paintings are from my latest collection called “Soul Search” which is a reflection of my inner consciousness and thoughts. The paintings are an expression of my spiritual journey. I have contributed nine paintings to the show, says Jyoti Sethi.
About the work, Khushboo Chatterjee said, I have picked up the natural beauty of my surroundings in most of my work. My work also depicts our inner senses of love, joy, inspiration, achievement etc. For this particular show, I have presented “Lotus Series” as I am passionate about water. There are 13 paintings in all.
As a co-curator, I have chosen artists whose works present natural beauty or a journey towards spiritual nature in this show. Most of the artists have been my students (two from outside India) also and they have put in diligent effort in putting the show together, says Sunando Basu.
Maria-Luisa Arrivillaga, said my work explores age-old aspects of Indian culture that are still practiced today, many of which are overlooked because they are hidden behind the hustle and bustle of modern life. (Maria has lived in five continents and currently resides in New Delhi where she has lived since 2011).
Nanda Gupta said, my morning walks in Lodhi gardens have been inspiration for many of my paintings on nature that are currently on display. Besides I have also contributed paintings on Shiva, my journey into spirituality.
