New Delhi: Indian Cancer Society & Hero Cycles in association with Cycling Federation of India organized CYCLOTHON 2014 at Jawahar Lal Stadium today to spread the message – Get Fit, Stay Fit and Run/ Cycle the cancer out of your life.
Cricketer Gautam Gambhir & Environmentalist Sunita Narain flagged off Cyclothon 2014 amidst Festival of Colors played with rose petals. Around 500 Children in the age group of 3-18 years along with their parents participated in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Gautam Gambhir said, “Fitness is an important part of our life. What better way to spread awareness on cancer as a lifestyle disease than by promoting cycling and other sports”.
Sunita Narain who was badly knocked out while riding a bicycle recently in Delhi said, “We will launch a movement for making cycling safer in Delhi. Its good for health as well as environment”.
“The slogan Get fit, Stay fit – the ride to beat cancer is Indian Cancer Society’s public contact program. Sedentary lifestyle is one of the chief causes of lifestyle diseases such as cancer. Take health in your hands – Get fit; stay fit and help in contributing your bit towards cancer control”, said Ms Jyotsna Govil, Hony Secretary Indian Cancer Society on the occasion.
Other Attractions at Cyclothon 2014 included Flash mob by students of AIESSEC and Delhi Public school Gurgaon, Nukkad natak by LSR students and Delhi Public School, Gurgaon students, on the spot painting competition for young children.
Indian Cancer Society’s Cancer Screening Van was placed at the venue to register for free cancer screening (for women) at the Cancer Detection Centre.
