Mumbai:After five successful seasons, the sixth season of the annual Spell Bee competition also received an overwhelming response from students. In the semi-finals, Classmate Spell Bee 2014 powered by The Times of India, saw participation of some of the most talented spellers. This round was conducted through an online test.
With Times NIE as education partner, the competition saw Soumya Malhotra from Delhi Public School emerge as the winner in the semi-finals. Malhotra will now be in contention to compete in the national finals of the competition.The early rounds of the competition received an outstanding response in the 27 cities, including Delhi, where the semi-finals were conducted. In the initial phase, an on-ground exercise was conducted across 54 schools in Delhi where children were given spelling tests. Top 15 scorers from each school then competed in the city finals round.
The top performers from the city finals then competed in the semi-finals. The culmination of Classmate Spell Bee 2014 will see a gruelling competition between the top 16 scorers of India to win the title of India’s Spell Bee Champion. The top 16 participants of the competition will compete in the national finals of the competition to be telecast on Discovery Channel, Discovery Kids and Discovery Tamil. Warrier has emerged as the city champion and he will be contesting in the national finals of the competition. During the finals, he would be battling bright minds like him who won from 27 cities where the contest was held.
