Striking a balance between work and the family is the key to success for today’s women

College, Kachiguda, Hyderabad. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Dr Vani Mohan, commissioner for employment and training, the chief guest for the occasion called upon the women to strike a balance between work and the family obligations without shying away from the biological role entrusted by God to them to attain motherhood. She further said, “Don’t believe in antagonizing your male counterpart, be it your husband or colleague at the work place. The accommodative attitude, adjusting attitude, giving in, to the extent that you don’t sacrifice your happiness always pays off. We are going through a phase of transition. I don’t have to blame anyone, but considering the social structure of developing societies like India, whether women achieve or not turns up as a problem and they get crushed. Basic happiness be it a man or woman is found in marriage and having a family. So you need to take a holistic view and self regulate your freedom. Learn to think and decide for yourself.”

A wide range of companies from diverse sectors including Deloitte, CA Technologies, Oracle, Wipro, Infosys, Gati logistics, Kony, Husys, Honeywell, Emobitise, 411 Staff, Sree Infotech, Crypsis and High Brow event production Company participated in the fair. More than fifty companies provided a platform to women candidates to explore potential employment opportunities and access their employability skills, so that they could reorient themselves as per the current industry standards. More than three thousand students from BSC, BCOM, MBA, MCA and Engineering stream participated in the fair, which is going to be an annual event as per the organisers. Free workshops such as ‘Health and Hygiene’ by Pradnya Keskar Narayana; ‘Self-defense techniques for Women’; ‘Higher education guidance’ by I20 Fever; ‘Emerging technologies and opportunities in IT’ by Skills Bridge; ‘From Campus to Corporate’ by Imagenie were also held.

Speaking at the inaugural session Veena Reddy Endula, founder chairperson Young COWE said, “Women have resurrected their might in the male bastion having excelled as pilots, astronauts in the army and the defense forces. On women’s day we celebrate the life of women who have endured difficulties to emerge as our icons. So I appeal to all men to celebrate the women in their lives for the multifaceted role they play at home and office.” She said the job fair has been organised for the first time in the city to create opportunities exclusively for women.

Amita Kasbekar, Inclusion lead, Deloitte, another dignitary on the dias deplored gender discrimination and called upon the women to show up their presence at the workplace. Underlining the need to hone their communication skills and executive presence at the work place for job aspirants, she said that they need to brush up their physical appearance, the opinion they carry or what they say and how they put it across to have an edge over others besides their education. Poonam R Saraf, also one of the guests on the dias, head institutional development, Badruka Educational Society stressed on the occasion to inspire change and to instill belief that each one of us can make a difference to provide equal  opportunities for women.

A panel discussion on ‘Women in Leadership’ was also held on the occasion. The speakers expressed hope that the discussion would encourage and inspire the society to realize the contribution of women in the success and prosperity of a nation and pave the way for women leaders to usher in change. They resolved to celebrate many milestones on the road to gender equality, and recommit themselves to fight for the rights and opportunities and safety and equality of women. Prasanna Anireddy, Director of Engineering at Progress Software, Sundari Pisupati, Partner of Tempus Law Associate; Sharmila Khan, the Principal HR Business Partner at CA Technologies and Nirzari Raichura, Senior Principal Consultant at Oracle DBA participated in the panel discussion.
